Heard a lot about this wonderful country but never got a chance to be there. Goethe summed up Switzerland succinctly as a combination of 'the colossal and the well-ordered'. It is heard that Swiss towns are tempered by the lofty splendour of the landscapes and fresh air that directly comes from the terrific Alps. I was just wonderin if any of Sajha member has been there, so how was it? Is it as wonderful as mentioned? I mean is Swiss as beautiful as our NEPAL? im v curious!!!! Though, always wanted to visit this place but not seriously interested, not yet!! coz i heard it is the best place for honeymoon :-) Please do share your experience if uve been there. And give some tips, where to go Zurich, Bern, Geneva, Basel? Im feeling really tired becoz of work and study and have no money in pocket, may be one fine morning I backpack towards SWISS ALPS until then I wait for your suggestions!!!

I have been there for about two weeks. I went to Zurich, Zeneva, Wingen, Interlagan and some other places. Rented a car, drove around the country and someday I just rode train. There is no comparison between Nepal and Switzerland. Nepal is famous for Himalaya and Switzerland is famous for Alps. Himalaya is good for expeditors like Tenzing Sherpa and average people like can not really experience it other than looking at it from hundreds of miles of distence. Alps is for average people like us who can really enjoy the trip without having any additional skills. The contry is amazing everywhere. Every piece of landscape is like a fine piece of painting from a fine artist. You will be so amazed by its beauty, you will be like WOW at all times. I would definately suggest you to go there whatever it costs you. I was there around August's first two weeks, so it is right time too.

Amazing bro, After having spent some 3 years in this country, I have something to write: 1. A country having similarity to Nepal for being/having a) land-locked country b) mountainous image c) tremendous natural beauty d) nice people (comparable only to people in Nepal before war) d) multilingual-multicultural country etc. 2. Size of Switzerland is 3.5 times smaller than that of Nepal (population density is almost same). Languages spoken being German (60%) near to the region surrounded by Germany, French (25%) near to the region surrounded by France, Italian (7%) near to the region surrounded by Italy, Roman (1%), and others. 3. One of the most peaceful and rich (not only in money) country. Its democracy is an example to the world (as in their democracy, it is ruled by 50+% votes, but if a single 'citizen' is opposing something, that is absolutely reviewed by the state). 4. Beauty: beauty is something others can explain. All are true saying Switzerland is beautiful or Nepal is beautiful (as while telling Britney Spears/Pritey Zinta/Karishma Manandhar is beautiful or saying a 'poor girl' of Humla is equally beautiful, both are correct; but while it comes for us to choose in our REAL life, we would not choose the second category, though we would appreciate her beauty equally or even more than that of the first category). 5. Life should have been totally natural, but it is NOT. So, nature is only a part of life. 6. Some Nepali people are studying/settling in Switzerland (few of them lost their citizenship to become a Bhutanese/Tibetean/Maoist/Maoist-affected). 7. Rest on next. CIAO.

Well I know Lausanne is predominantly french speaking city. But apart from that I know nothing. Could you tell me about how is it generally (like beauty, must see places ), how expensive is this city, weather and so on?

I would like to go to Switzerland someday. It has always been my dream to visit this place since childhood. That is probably because of the movies I watched - James Bond's Gold Finger, Raj Kapoor's Sangam, etc. Well, someday definitely, with my family. Hey, do they speak English over there? Or do I have to learn French, German and Italian?
