KATHMANDU, AUG 20 -

Football fans hold your breath! JPR Events—the company which brought global superstar Bryan Adams to Kathmandu earlier this year—is all set to bring international football stars for a match at Dashrath Stadium on November 3, barring alternation in the schedule.

JPR events has confirmed that a team comprising former Dutch internationals Regi Blinker, Ruud Gullit, Ronald De Boer, Patrick Kluivert and Winston Borgade, and former German international Oliver Kahn will play a charity match here against Nepali footballers. French midfield maestro Zinadine Zidane, Brazilian superstar Ronaldo and German superstars Lothar Matheus and Haman Didi are also on the guest list but their participation is yet to be confirmed.

At a press meet, Regi Blinker, who will be bringing the footballers to Kathmandu, said they are all part of a foundation working for charity. The proceeds from the event will go to the foundation they work for.

Blinker runs a lifestyle magazine in Germany—”Life After Football”. His career in football picked up with Feyenoord in 1986 and he also represented the Dutch national team for a year in 1993-1994. Among the notable teammates he had in his career are Swede Henrik Larsson while playing for Celtic Rangers in 1997-2000, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who captained the Dutch national side, with the same team and Ruud Gullit for Holland.

After learning that the English League is closely followed in this part of the world, Blinker said he would try his best to bring English footballers as well.

JPR Events Product Manager Nabin Pande said the idea behind this event is to motivate and promote Nepal Tourism Year-2011. He said he would need help from all stakeholders to make the event a success.

Though JPR has fixed November 3 as the date for the match, Pande said there was uncertainty in the schedule due to the country’s fluid political situation. It is also not confirmed who will feature in the Nepali team. “As it is against world class footballers, we cannot confirm right now who the Nepali players would be,” added Pande.
