well there are tons of other places but they all will cost you some money.. etrade.. fidelity...IB to name a few.. if you are looking for ETFs or mutual funds..vanguard etf's and mutual funds are free to trade..

If you're only investing $1000 then i'd definitely recommend Robinhood app since it's free. If your goal is to invest more later, then you can try Fidelity or Schwab (both $4.95 per trade), cheaper than other competitors Etrade, TD etc. Good Luck.
