I was fixing to send some money to Nepal but Muncha said they don't have their service available in Texas (http://www.muncha.com/money/) I don't know what they were thinking when they didn't decide to add Texas at first. Well, can anyone help a brother out and direct me to some websites like Muncha who doesnt charge anything if it's over 2500?

Sajhamitra,

I just tried to create an account on thamelremit.com but it says that I already have an account with muncha. I think they both go through the same server or something. The point is thamelremit.com didnt helped.

Looser,
Thamelremit and muncha may be using the same engine i.e coinx. I would say directly call them to this number 503-542-7445. Leave the voice message if they don't respond. They usually respond pretty quickly within few hours or immediately. Just explain them what you are trying to do.

I just called that number man, they said Muncha and them both go through same system. And the guy told me to wire the money to their bank account . The whole thing sounded fishy plus my bank will wire transfer the money to Nepal for 45 bucks so why would i wire transfer the money to them. I wish Muncha would unf@#$k themselves so that it would be easy to send money again.I used their service couple of years ago and had no problem with it.

Their transfer fee is just $10 not $45 if you are sending less 2500.

Best way to send money nepal is through www.prabhuremit.com.There is no more charge if you send more than $1000. Within 4-5 business days, recipients can get money easily online.

You can do WIRE transfer through any major US banks such as BOA, Chase, Wells Fargo etc. The exchange rate is much better (market rate) than Muncha or Thamel Remit, and the fee ranges from $25-45.

Mailo Bhai,

I just talked to my bank and they said they'll charge 45 bucks and since they dont carry Nepalese Rupees, they'll transfer dollars to the bank in Nepal. So, My question is will the bank in Nepal charges me more and what will be the exchange rate?

Nepalese bank uses worst rate than the banks in US, so u don't wanna deposit in USD in Nepalese bank. Better to use money transfer agency and than doing wire transfer.

I have never tried but it sounds like bank to bank transfer will be the most appropriate/legal way to send chunk of $$ in Nepal. I am not aware of how much a bank in Nepal will charge for incoming amount but here is US most of the major banks have flat rate for international transfer.

@Looser: The Bank will deposit NRs with the conversion rate of the day the transaction is executed in Nepal....you can research/try other avenues to see if the rates are better but IMHO, WIRE transfer was easiest and most secure, and the rates are bank published rates......and above all, no limit. The fee is the same if you transfer USD 1 or 40k. Having said that, the rates will always be less than if you exchange it in Nepal in person in Thamel or other places....

Also, I do not recall Banks in Nepal charging extra....If I recall, they only charge if the account is from outside of KTM...worth checking though.

And you'll be in big brother's list to be watched for at least six months.
Banks or any other transfer agencies will make a SAR (suspicious activities report) for transactions over 10K. Breaking the the fund into smaller chunks? They are smart too..they know it. They watch all the activities over a period from a person. After 9/11, they are really worried about the terrorist funded by US money. So any big transaction get reviewed from that standpoint.

Use any major US bank if you really want to send big chunk of money to Nepal. Make sure you send dollar from here. Not Nepalse currncy. They will give you low exchange rate here is US if you transfer nepalese currency. So just ask them to send dollar to Nepal. And when it gets there , you get the echange rate which is the buying rate of dollar in nepal. The exchange rate is higher than moneygram western union or any other thirs party services. You might end of paying $45 fee to intiate transfer from here through bank but trust me you will save a lot on echange. This is my personal experience. Done this many time and never had any issue. No suspicious report no legal issues. Just indicated reason as family support while doing wire.
I want to suggest one more time, send dollar from here . Do not intiate echange is US. They will ask if you want to send dollar or local currencies and go for dollar.

@ daru. You must have done echane here at bank of america. Thats the reason you got $1= 93. I made a wire last week and they got $1= 98... The exact rate that Nepal bank has as buying rate in nepal on particular day you receive your money.
