I am sharing my experience and review of "NCELL Connect" Internet in Nepal. This is as of December 2013. This is for use of Internet using PC or Laptop. For startup, it was necessary to buy a USB Device (Dongle) that cost about Rs. 3500. Then I bought 1 GB data package for about Rs. 800. According to the Staff at NCELL, the max speed is 3.6 Mbps. Practically, I got 0.77 Mbps to 2.90 Mbps Download speeds, which is still the fastest among the ones I tried in Nepal. The USB and software were easy to install.

Purchase and installation Procedure
Not all NCELL shops have the USB device, the one I got was across the new US Embassy. You will need some form of ID and a Photo for application form. The purchase procedure is quick and you can start using the device immediately.

In Summary:
Advantages are: Fast download speeds during good connection. The max download speed I got during my tests was 2.90 Mbps. The device and software is easy to install, Load Shedding (power outage) does not affect internet connection (while using laptop). The device is portable and has good reception. Monthly subscription is not required so it is convenient for short term use. Once you buy the USB device, you can re-use if in future even if you discontinue the data package.
Disadvantages are: Expensive startup cost and for recharging data. Lacks consistency in quality, it gets slow every now and then. Actually, the slowdown seems to happen with all internet providers during peak hours such as during evenings. Data package expires after 30 days (or depending on package).
For IT Professionals:
VPN, Remote desktop are workable when the connection is fast. The Latency is also okay, but again the problem is that it is not consistent and at times the latency does get high making remote access slow. If you need to use internet frequently it is better to get 10 GB data packages. The data does run out quickly.
Following are Ping test results when the connections is good

I use about 3-4 GB during weekend, normally 1 GB per day, but depending upon the pipeline, I'm sure that 10 GB would take a long time to get spent. But this post is JIT.
Thanks a lot.

It would have been lot better if someone else post about Ncells competitors as well..

I've been using NTC's dongle (USB) for the past 10 days or so and the internet speed is quite acceptable and considerably reasonably priced. Sure, there are times when the speed is moving at the pace of traffic in Thapathali at 5:30 pm, but more often than not, I've barely had any issues.

From what I hear, NTC's speed is faster than Ncell's. If you really need blazing fast internet, WiMax is the way to go but again, it all depends on what your needs are. For unlimited internet, you always have the option of subscribing to cable internet.

To subscribe, you need go to NTC offices in Pulchowk or Dharahara w/ two copies of PP pics and a copy of your citizenship. You'll be paying Rs. 2,200 and that's inclusive of a dongle (1 GB USB) and 3 GB of data Package. Renewal is seamlessly easy.

Positives of ncell
-fast internet as the reviewer mentioned

Some negatives of ncell
-NCELL is doing something bad with their data counting.. in USA i use 5gb in 2 to 3 weeks but in nepal ncell somehow im able to use 5gb in 1 week only...(im subscribed using their package) without pkg, your internet will finish even faster.
-at Night time around 7pm to 10pm ncell slows down too much and doesnt work properly.. maybe too many people using ncell at night ?

Everest- thanks for your post. i like it..can i use your post in my blog ?

That is interesting to know for people who will be travelling to Nepal and still need work, VPN and stuff.

However it would be really helpful for example, if Mr. Riddle would have posted some of the result of speed test during various time of day rather than what he has heard from people. Makes it easy to compare these services based on evidence. Also what is cost for setup for USB dongol for NTC?

Speed sucks anyway in Nepal, their most touted wimax is the substandard when we've godly 4G in present day.
But anyway, thanks for the input.
