"Arresting God in Boston". Samrat Upadhyay will read from his acclaimed book "Arresting God in Kathmandu." Samrat will discuss what it takes to be a writer, and talk about his own journey to writerdom. He will also speak of his forthcoming novel The Guru of Love, a love triangle set in the pro-democracy movement of 1990. This new Nepali Guru of Love will also sign copies of "Arresting God in Kathmandu". Speaker: Samrat Upadhyay Samrat Upadhyay needs no introduction, but just in case: Samrat is the first Nepali author to attract attention in the unabashedly competitive American publishing industry. His debut short story collection received high ranking from major US media last year. The New York Times called it "subtle and spiritually complex," and the San Francisco Chronicle called Samrat "startlingly good". He won the 2001 Whiting Award given to promising young writers, and the book was selected for Barnes and Noble's Discover Great Writers Program. His work has been read by Leonard Nimoy (of Star Trek fame) at Selected Shorts and has been aired on National Public Radio. He is Assistant Professor of English at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
