Mukti N’ Revival is the first major Nepalese band to perform in Canada. Doors open at 7:30pm. Ticket prices are $20 advance and $25 at the door. The event will also feature performances by leading local Nepalese and Tibetan musicians followed by dancing till late night to the funky, eclectic spinning of DJ D. The concert is presented by and a benefit for Namaste Radio, a community media organization of the Nepalese Canadian community in Toronto. Mukti N’ Revival was formed in early 1997 in Kathmandu, Nepal when the renowned Nepalese blues/rock singer and frontman Mukti Shakya joined hands with the exceptionally talented musicians of the up and coming Nepalese band The Newaz –Roshan Kansakar (bass player), Upendra Singh (keyboard), and Rabindra Shrestha (drums). This union proved to be serendipitous, producing one of most professional, versatile and creative music bands that took the emerging Nepalese music scene by a storm. Their first album, Kalanki Ko Jam, has sold thousands of copies and was nominated for Album of the Year at the National Music Awards in 2001. Their second album, Bujhaideu Na (“Please Explain to Meâ€) released in 2003 was also nominated for the best rock album of the year. Later on, Spanish pianist, Maria Cinta Ano, also joined the band. The music of Mukti N’ Revival embodies a unique, groovy fusion of rock/blues rhythms and Nepalese and Newari melody. With meaningful lyrics, Mukti Shakya’s soulful vocals, and infectious rhythms, Mukti N’ Revival is considered to be the best Nepalese band. Currently on their North America tour, Mukti N’ Revival is bound to make their mark in the global music scene (see tour info at www.nepalisite.com/mukti ). This world class Nepalese band will be arriving in Toronto on August 15th and is expected to give a spectacular concert on August 18th at 237 Sackville Street. Not to be missed.
