Invitation to NYO Election 2004 - March 14th, Sunday, 3:00PM at GMU

Dear well-wishers of Nepali Youth Organization (NYO) in the DC Metro Nepali community:

The NYO Election 2004 is scheduled for March 14, 2004 at the George Mason University in Fairfax, VA at 3:00PM. Following are the candidates who submitted their application before the deadline of March 5th. Since the Election Commission did not receive any opposition to these positions by the deadline, they have been unanimously elected for the term 2004-06.

President: Shambhu Man Sainju*

Vice President: Kalpana Satyal*

Treasurer: Himal Bikram KC*

Member-at-large: Archana Joshee*

Please join us in congratulating them. We also encourage you to review two years working agendas proposed by the new President at the end of this message.

We plan to fill following open positions on the Election Day:

General Secretary, Secretary, Coordinator/Spokesperson and nine Executive Committee Members (each responsible for coordinating Sports, Culture, Technical, Student, Publication, Media and other projects)

If you are interested on any one of the above positions, we request you to participate on the meeting. In order to qualify, you must be between 18 to 40 years old and resident of Greater Washington area. Please bring your short profile/resume. If more than one person is interested on the same position on the Election Day, there will be election by secret ballot.

We would like to invite all well-wiser of NYO to come to this meeting, help fill right candidates for the open positions and vote if needed.

Voting guidelines:

Other than item 1. listed below, which will be verified by the Election Committee staff, voters are requested to determine their own eligibility and act on a code of honor.

Voter eligibility criteria:

1. Must complete and sign the NYO membership form and show a picture ID upon registration. Voters without a picture ID will not be permitted to vote.
2. Must be at least eighteen years of age.
3. Must attend at least one NYO event by the end of this year (December 31, 2004) or must have attended at least one NYO event in the last 3 years.
4. Must be willing to pay the membership fee that will be determined by the new Executive committee after the election. Notice about the NYO fee will be sent to all members by email. Membership fee must be paid by June 31, 2004.
5. Must whole-heartedly support NYO and select the best candidates for the open positions.

NYO FY2004-2006 Proposed Agenda

1. As an organization, NYO will go forward to globalize the organization. We intend to form NYO sister organizations in the following cities/countries (or more) through out the world.
a. New York City, NY
b. Seattle, Washington
c. Chicago, Illinois
d. Sydney, Australia
e. London, England
f. Kathmandu, Nepal
g. Hong Kong, China
h. Singapore, Singapore
2. NYO will work hard to raise $10,000,000.00 or more in the next two years within the US. Money will be utilized to run Educational and Health institutions in Nepal.
3. Establish coordinal relationship with sister organizations in the DC-Metro area and within the US
4. Support and promote Nepali community projects and medias such as Nepali School, Library, Nepal House, Television, Radio, print and online publications
5. Establish and maintain US and worldwide Nepalese database in collaboration with sister organizations
6. Support sister organizations in promoting Nepali language, literature and culture
7. Organize men and women sporting events
8. Monthly welcome programs for the new Nepali people in the US. This orientation program will be designed to help new Nepalese become familiar with various issues such as immigration, jobs, community activities and etc.
9. Two Seminars in a year to discuss various Nepalese issues.
10. Farm workers Visa. NYO will push an agenda with various agricultural state Governors to sponsor Farm workers Visa to Nepalese people.

Candidates Background:

Shambu Man Sainju: (Next President of NYO)
Mr. Sainju, a father of 2, is a resident of Northern Virginia. Pursuit of higher education has taken him to Iowa Wesleyan College, New Mexico Institute of Technology and John Hopkins University. An entrepreneur by spirit and software engineer by profession, he serves as a board of director in various technology-affiliated institutes. He is also a member of International Nepali Literary Society (INLS). His hobbies include playing soccer, bamboo flute and singing folk songs and dancing. His long-term goal includes returning to Nepal to help build the country.

Kalpana Satyal: (Next VP of NYO)

Mrs. Satyal, a resident of Northern Virginia, is pursuing a MS degree in Health Systems Management from George Mason University (GMU). She is a licensed nurse registered in the State of Virginia and has worked in various INOVA Hospital facilities. In the past she had actively led the Nepalese Student Association (NSA) in GMU from 2001-2003 as Secretary and President of that organization. Her strong academic performances have earned her various distinctions and scholarships in high school as well as college.

Himal Bikram KC : (Next Treasurer of NYO)

Mr. KC completed his BBS from Tribhuvan University. He founded progressive Youth Club in Pyuthan. He is a student member of Virginia CPA society as well as Association of Chartered CA in UK. He was also a member of Dallas Everest Lions Club.

Archana Joshee :

Ms. Joshee, a graduate of Bryn Mawr College is currently pursuing MS in Statistics from George Washington University. In the past she was involved in Habitat for Humanity as a treasurer and a member of the planning committee in Philly ANA convention in 2001. Presently, she chairs Washington Statistical Society. She also interned with EPA and currently is a Senior at Ernst & Young LLP.
