"Sarangiko talale mero manako geet gauncha Lekh dekhi besi samma Gaine meet launcha" Stephanie A. Spray, a Masters student at the Harvard Divinity School, spent 2001-2002 in Nepal with a Fulbright Scholarship studying the culture and music of the Gandharbas, or Gaine, of Nepal. As part of her project she learned to accompany them in song with the madal, a Nepali folk drum. She hopes to continue her work with the Gandharbas this coming summer and after finishing her Masters. In her presentation she will give a brief talk on what she learned about the Gandharbas, show a few video clips, play music samples, and even play a little madal if someone will volunteer to play sarangi (which she will provide). Speaker: Stephaine A. Spray Stephanie is a graduate of Smith College, where she received highest honors in the Department of Religion. She has also studied some tabla with Homnath Upadhyaya in Kathmandu and Ramu Pandit in Benaras. Date: April 24, 2003 Time: 7:15-9:00 PM
