Hi Guys,
I am planning to apply for Permanent Residence for Australia. As per my background, I am graduating this may with master degree for Biomedical engineering. I been working as Research associate at university lab as 20 hr per week.
I went through the point calculator web site and got lost as it said that that they need Australian qualification only. IF somebody can through some light on this application process and if any lawyer is working on for this process, their contact information will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

As you are graduating from outside Australia you may not be eligible to Apply for PR.For outside graduates they require 1 to 4 years of experience depending on your profession. here is how you count age:>29 =30 30-34:25 35-40:20 40-44:15 ENGLISH 7 in all Band =25 6 in all Band:15 education as Biomedical Engineer :60 Work Experience 5 or 10 your occupation is not on demand list so you may require more than1 year of work experience.

thank you vname. From you response, i assume that if i can get 7 in all band for ielts, i have a chance. but my question is...... my job title does not say biomedical engineer even though my degree is biomedical engineer. Do you think i still can get 60 point just for having this degree.....

Also good thing is you can get State sponsorship and easily get PR. This is newly created visa and very very easy provided that your profession is on the state list. Also note that this visa is completely different than SIR visa.

vname, thank you for your helpful posts. It seems you know the details about applying for PR in Au. Indeed, as other posters mentioned, the self-assessment tool (point calculator) does not make sense. For someone with PhD in Chemistry from a US university and 3 years of work experience as a scientist in the US pharmaceutical industry, what are the chances?
