I also was completely misled to believe that Prithvi was really the GREAT until I came across this history log that I postes in this thread:
http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?ThreadID=75855
In fact, the diboypadesh guy is nothing short of a sick monster.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an interesting history read set upon the time when Prithvi Narayan the great conquered Kathmandu valley based on the account by one of the prominent missionaries of the time. I never believed someone can be so cruel and inhumane to cut body parts of the whole population including children, like that Prithvi the great was said to have done to the residents of Kirtipur. This sounded more like an urban legend. The graphic details on the reading however paints a pretty guresome picture. After reading this, Prithvi Narayan the great seems more like a cruel lowlife killer than unifier of the nation. He is a freaking shame on the humanity.

Sometime great one has to exist in inappropriate time. Newlynew, i think you are shame on Nepalese. It's Gandhi who led the way for the separation of Pakistan. And it will be person like you who would will aid for the division of country back to those creepy era.

RajuBro: I too am for unified Nepal as you can see in 100% of my postings but we don't need a monster like Prithvi to be standing in a unified Platform in 2010. I am only stating the fact here that what Prithvi did in Kirtipur was inhumane to say the least and it is clearly documented in the historical logs of the missionaries. Would you not agree his acts were cruel and horrendous? Or you will just turn a blind eye on that since he is the unifier of the country and hence should be exempted from any human standards?

Prithvi narayan wasnt trying to unite a nation, it just so happened that he wanted to expand his territory and ended up forging a nation called nepal and got credited for it and yeah that bastid! was cruel for doing what he did in Kirtipur. Kirtipureys remind me of the Spartans from the movie 300. if it hadn't been for that one traitor prithvi narayan would have never or would have had been much tougher to conquer Kirtipur.

Prithvi got an amnesty when he was defeated first time by Kirtipur. Oh yes, Prithvi was defeated by Kirtipur twice. Here he was defeated and hid himself in a pen( I mean kukhura ko khor) to save his life. Later the owner of the house found him, he decalred he was the king of Gorkha. When the Naya: of Kirtipur learnt about him, The Naya: let him go, saying kings are an incarnation of God Vishnu. When Prithvi won Kirtipur, this Naya: (mayor) was the first to be killed by Prithvi. I am glad that Kingship has been uprooted for good. F**K this dynasty and King Prithvi. By the way, you may say F888k me, but let me tell you I am from Kirtipur and my ancesters were the ones whose noses were chopped off then. And Prithvi did not defeat us as bravely as we defeated the Gorkhali then. I am a proud Kirtipure: proud that our ancesters were braver than Gorkhali.

One thing everybody need to acknowledge is that without Prithivi Narayan Shah, there wouldn't have been a sovereign nation called Nepal. without him, we would have been part of East India Company and India subsequently. Whatever we (Nepali) are right now is because of this brave man. and I salute him for this reason.

You know brave and shrewd/clever are two different things. Do not confuse between the two. For 250 years, shrewd British/gorkhalis portrayed Newars as cowards.

I heard about it when I was young from my grand father. He has been dead now for 30 years. Now any modest history book about Nepal talks about two Kirtipur wars and the faith of the Gorkhali armies during these two wars before they succeeded in grabbing Kirtipur. During the second war, Prithvi lost Kalu Pandey, Prithvi's brother (Bal Mardan??) lost his eye and Prithvi again almost lost his life before he miraculously escaped. That's what I've heard. OK I do not want to talk about these old things that do nothing to reunite our country, but when I see some folks saying all craps, I also want to throw in some. Let us talk about reuniting the country. To do that, let us start our history from Tribhuvan. How about that?

Who said "Newars are coward"? This rotten head is himself revealing this phrase that i never heard before. Don't you think you are coward? If you are newar shame on you. Instead of uniting oneself you are trying to divide us. Doesnot suprises me for you hating King Prithvi Narayan Shah.

Raju161, I don't know where you found me say Newars are cowards. I'm saying people from Gorkha etc, so called Ranas, Shahs etc have portrayed Newars to be cowards. I've seen it, heard it from folks in Nepal. Rotten head? That's still better than no head, isn't it?

Where in Nepal? It was not your Gubaju who united this country together. Try to show some respect to one who united our country. Had it been to mallas, kirtipures or whateva they were happy with their own things and their own luxuries. It's his sweat and his effort that our country stands at this position. Your mentality reveals that it was better if Nepal was a size of Kirtipur. Don't link King Prithvi Narayan Shah with kirtipur. Kirtipur is not only place he fought for. Defeating Mir Kasim from India was also our great achievement. If you all think that King Prithvi Narayan Shah was bad then shame on you all.

Raju161, Without any sentimentality, Tell me what did I get from the unification that I'd not have got without Prithvi Narayan Shah? They united the country and looted the whole people, same thing the Brits would have done any way. I don't respect someone I don't feel like to. My respect should and will come from my heart where necessary. You can cry like hell but it won't happen until I see a good reason for it. The country was thrown into darkness for 250 years. Then came their relatives, the Ranas, and f8888ked the country for another 105 years. The end result is, 100 % of people were illiterate and poor and nothing to eat. What your f*8*king king gave the people? Just a citizenship card? That citizenship can be gotten in any land in this world. If not for Prithvi Narayan, Nepal would have been India by now. You could get a citizenship there too, if you wanted. Now you are saying Indians are worse off than Nepalese when it comes to economy, education, culture etc?? Today, we are just slaves in Saudi Arabia, Katar , India etc. This is, alas, the reality! If you look back, Prithvi Narayan's offsprings have just looted the country beyond belief. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand it. You know, you are talking about union? Alexander reunited the whole world 2 thousand years ago, so should I be obliged to him, too (or Him, too)? "Thank you Alexander, you poked my ancesters" etc.etc Today F***king Prithvi is nobody when you compare him to Alexander. Both Prithvi and Alexander were barbaric, did nothing to improve the life of their subjects.

235 years ago today, the founder of Nepalese unity breathed his last and bequeathed a powerful, cohesive state to his son and heir.
Today the legacy of King Prithvi Narayan Shah the Great is more under attack than ever before. The line of Shah Kings has been sundered, the Nepalese Army is being harrassed and humiliated, Hinduism is under assault, the enemies of the Nepalese nation have been granted free rein in Kathmandu, and national unity is being slowly killed in the name of "federalism."
God bless Nepal, and may it emerge from these dark times as it has from every other crisis before now.
