Old tire causes that kind of smell too.
Another possible reason could be the bad clutch plate if your car is stick/manual shift.

How about ur heat indicator? If it is way up, this could be a radiator problem. Go have it checked by good mechanic.

maybe its your valve cover gasket. see if you have any oil leakage. If there is a leakage than you might have to change the gasket.

If  your car overheats, it could be the head gasket inside engine ouch. cost you $1200 plus. If not, then it could be the brake pads giving off smell like burning rubber. Why in the earth does old or new tyre smells when wear and tear is normal ? It is possible that some moving part getting rubbed against the rubber or plastic items like wheel hitting Mud gaurd, off balanced radiator fan hitting it's casing ....

It might be alternator problem or timing belt shift. Alternator could be cheap but changing timing belt and water pump could be expensive...

You did not mentioned what kind of car and year and running mileage.

It may be many things?
1) Check the oil, if you know and if it is gone or you see the check engine light is on. You will hear noise as well burning smell, in that case buy couple Qrt 10-30 oil and add before you drive to mechanic.  My friend keep driving even after the check engine light was on.
2) If any thing leaking? It will burn and smell.
3) If the serpentine ( the belts ) are getting old and tight may give burning smell.
4) If you have enough coolant and the heat indicator does not go high do not worry about thermostat and head gasket problem.
5) If the head-gasket has problem first indicator is High Heat indication and your car will smoke from the tail pipe as well under the hood. People will yell you to save your life because they think your car caught on fire.
6) If any thing like oil or plastic touches the head manifold which is over 160 F temperature will make it smelly.
7) Your car may have picked up something by the exhaust pipe and once you drive couple miles and will get hot and start smelling and may feel it is coming form the hood.
8) It has nothing to do with the timing belt and the water-pump. Once the timing belt goes while you driving it may cost you big buck and it it is water-pump it will lead to you over heat and blow your head gasket, you coolant will flow to in and out. You will see mixed up with the coolant as well with the engine oil.
9) One time I added oil and forgot to close the cap and the oil was all over the hood, it was smokey as well smelly.

Now you figure out what might happen? If you own an old car try to find people work on street and know a lot and have tools to fix it. Check on your local Craigslist under Service then automobile. Good luck and let us know the result.

Could it be that your wheels are not aligned?  The tire might be rubbing on something and giving out that odor/smoke.  Get it checked.

How did you figure out that is due to wheel alignments? If the alignments are bad they will make wired noise, tire has wear and tear unevenly even bald in  one side.Do you see these symptoms?
Though, Harlem: That thing you can not do it by watching Y_Tube. Bring it to tires replacement store or any mechanics they do have wheel alignments machine.

guys i took the car to the mechanic, charged me $123.27. He said the problem was that the coolant had a leak and he sealed it and add some coolant fluids.
I was happy and went back home. Did some driving , parked and check my coolant. The coolant was hot.
Is it ok if coolant is hot? I really don't know abt it. Are they usually hot on hot day when i had driven only for like 15 minutes?
Thanx again.

May be this is your first car, If you have not wrote this line we may have suggested to look the coolant as well the coolant.

Next time if you post anything just give us the idea what you know? What he did is Checked the coolant and found low, he might have added coolant sealant which will cost 5.99-9.99 and just added coolant on the top of it.

Yes, Never Ever open radiator cap just after driving it, it will over 200 f heat and if it touches your skin you will get 3rd degree burn and you will end up at Emergency

By now, go you-tube and learn the basic of Car care. Once in a while keep checking the oil, break oil and coolant. If they are low keep adding. As you know the regular oil change is 3000 miles or over 3 months.

I will say you are a typical Nepali mentality guy. Because You are still hesitant to tell us the model and year make.

Conant will boil that is the reason asked  not open the cap at least 10-15 minutes after your drive. Even after 15 minutes, use some clothes and just unwind little bit and let the coolant will flow down,  is the safest  way to open radiator cap.

Thermostat controls the fan and once the engine overheats up the coolant will heat and the thermostat is designed to kick the fan on once it reaches certain temperature level.. If the fan is not running you may see the heat indicator in your dashboard  going up normally it stays half way or less,  never let it go over 60-70% (red zone) it will damage your car head gasket and it will cost you $500 and over to replace it, still you need to fix the thermostat..

So, while you drive this car, make sure the heat indicator is not too high. Did you ask you mechanic what did he do on your car? Did he change any thing? What was the reason ? Most of the time they keep your car inside, they jack up and leave for hours and hours, do little things and charge for bucks.
I had overheated problem and it was due thermostat which cost 7-10 dollars and takes about half, someone changed the radiator and finally the head gasket gone, paid about 450, That mechanic did not change the thermostat nor advised for it, again blown the head gasket, finally dumped the car.

Hope you will watch heat indicator while you drive.
