Many of us when we come from Nepal experience cultural shock. What was yours??
One of the biggest schocks to me was when students in class sat with their shoes facing the teacher. I thought that was totally disrespectful. I would also get surprized when total strangers greeted me.

Also another cultural shock was when other international students conned me to go into the women's locker room saying it was a coed locker. It was a pleasant shock for real. God these american women are hottttttt

ya hushpupps, there is a whole spectrum of nepalese folks in the US. you can get a good glimpse of the cross section when you go to these nepalse conventions. the variety is just really amazing. also, methinks the americans have become more conservative over the last few years....

another culture shock: in the first week of freshman year, i hung out with a bunch of losers who only talked about dumbass television shows that i had never seen. so i always felt out of place. so decided to go find friends who were less limited in their perspectives and interests. it turned out to be a good decision.

It wasn't shocking to find a gay nepali but the extent he was preternding to be in the closet while each one of us knew him well..i felt sorry for the girl

haha.. I did get into a ladies room while once I was really drunk. I couldn't see the signs properly and so I just went in to take a leak and was really confused when I didn't see any men's pee bowl. So I took a leak inside on a toilet bowl and when I was washing my hands, I had three ladies say to me "what are you doing in a ladies room?" I was like "is this a ladies room? Oh I'm really sorry" and they started laughing like crazy. I was pretty embarassed so I just ran outta there.

Came to usa, second day went to the walmart with family. 2 of my friends were with us. Both of them were walking together, you know eachother's hand on the shoulder. giggling , talking and laughinh to eachother and walking inside the walmart. May be people were looking at them, i didnt realize it then. My sisters came infront of them and asked them, are you guys gay?? They replied of course we are gay!!
we all didn't know wat gay means?!! My sisters didn't say anything but laughed few times teasing my friends coz they were still holding the hands and walking together.
later, I think they asked to my uncle and he told them the meaning of gay and means of 2 guys holding hands here in usa.
As soon as they foundout, they came to me and and asked me do i know what is this gay means?? I was still unknown...... I think they didn't tell me that day... neither i was that curious to know that time.
Next day, we went to the international party of the university student. My uncle whispered on my ear, that guy is gay. I was like " gay bhaneko ke ho"? he answered me in one word "hijada". I still got confused and asked him how he is gay or hijada and stuffs. later he explained me in detail about Gay. That was very disgusting & shocking for me to know about gay and their preference.

Okay I saw root beer in the cafeteria soda fountain and I thought wah wah.. In america they serve beer in school's cafeteria. After drinking it, I was disillusioned.

For me, comparing cultural shock within our country itself is unparalleled as that with the cultural shock between Nepal and other Western countries.

Being an inhabitant of central region of Nepal, once I had an opportunity to go to Chitwan, Southern region for my job related excursion, and seeing all those naked guys(wrapping with those so called thong around their lower bottom), my goodness, that is the first and last biggest cultural shock I have ever faced in my whole freaking life.
