Donald Trump didn’t come up with the list of Muslim countries he wants to ban. Obama did.

How did the Trump administration choose these seven Muslim-majority countries to ban? The truth is, it didn’t: The countries—Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen—were chosen during Barack Obama’s presidency.
According to the draft copy of Trump’s executive order, the countries whose citizens are barred entirely from entering the United States is based on a bill that Obama signed into law in December 2015.
Obama signed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act as part of an omnibus spending bill. The legislation restricted access to the Visa Waiver Program, which allows citizens from 38 countries who are visiting the United States for less than 90 days to enter without a visa.
Though outside groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and NIAC Action—the sister organization of the National Iranian American Council—opposed the act, the bipartisan bill passed through Congress with little pushback.
At the initial signing of the restrictions, foreigners who would normally be deemed eligible for a visa waiver were denied if they had visited Iran, Syria, Sudan or Iraq in the past five years or held dual citizenship from one of those countries.
In February 2016, the Obama administration added Libya, Somalia and Yemen to the list of countries one could not have visited—but allowed dual citizens of those countries who had not traveled there access to the Visa Waiver Program. Dual citizens of Syria, Sudan, Iraq and Iran are still ineligible, however.
So, in a nutshell, Obama restricted visa waivers for those seven Muslim-majority countries—Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen—and now, Trump is looking to bar immigration and visitors from the same list of countries.
Trump’s use of a list created with Democrats’ support is obviously geared toward a more nefarious end. A total visa-issuance moratorium is more severe than restricting visa waiver access. But the guilt-by-association of having a higher burden for entry at all underlies the bill Obama signed, too.
And one of the criticisms of Trump’s reported proposal for the early stages of his Muslim ban—that it is security-theater—is true of Obama curtailing visa wavers. Those restrictions were an early response to the San Bernardino shooting and Paris attacks, but in both cases the assailant were nationals of the countries in which they carried out such violence.
When the Trump administration announced its plans to issue the executive order, Sean Spicer told the White House press pool that people coming from the Middle East and Africa have a “predisposition” for terrorism. The visa waiver restriction, a bipartisan bill Obama signed into law, reinforces that same xenophobic sentiment.

Trump's order is much broader. It bans all citizens from those seven countries from entering the U.S. and leaves green card holders subject to being rescreened after visiting those countries. Some were forced to renounce thier green card.

Trump only explanded Obama's policies on the countries that Obama chose. Thank god Obama did not choose Nepal. Trump has every right to protect US citizens any which way he thinks is right. What obama did was he selected the countries which should not get visa waivers because they were muslim countries. Trump only expanded the policy to disallow them.

Stop tripping. I never said that Trump did not put the muslim ban. He did and he put the bans on countries that Obama had identified as problem countries. Well not all policies are from project 2025. If you look at policies of Canada or France, you will probably find some common points as well. Plus not all of his cabinet members can possibly from Project 2025. Some of them may be linked but when you are talking about large political organizations, there may be some members who are associated with the organizations who had nothing to do with writing the actual project 2025 dictates. For example, if you join the YMCA, and YMCA has a rule book. It does not mean that you are involved in writing that rule book. You may or may not agree with the whole rule book but you will probably go to the YMCA for the Gym. So don't try to generalize too much just because it fits your narrative. Even if they are involved, it does not mean that their whole life's priority is to make sure that the points in Project 2025 are followed to the T.

I don't know how rich you are, from what I have seen from your other post you seem affluent maybe that is why you are defending Trump.

I am not defending Trump per se but defending the right of the people to live in peace without the threat of nuclear war looming over our heads. The establishment democrats and republicans have shown that they are ready to sell their soul to the highest bidder which happens to be the war machine. Trump is the only candidate who has opposed wars on day one and I think the world being a safe place is the number one priority before anything else comes to mind. That is why I support the MAGA movement. I am not sure where exactly you saw me being affluent. I am neither affluent nor poor. I stand in the middle with peace of mind.
