The Tughlaq in mention is the one of the late 90's being '97/ 98 ! Attended as a collegiate. Yeah LC also had some wonderful school plays. Even the college had one - The Rivals- did u get to see it? Was in '99 i think. These girls were great. You know, i often wonder how it would have been if they had an Annual play picking out the best from all the school's n colleges - guys get to act as guys and girls as girls. .... but still i think they used to portray the opposite sex pretty well. I still remember some 'topden/tobgay' (??)guy fron NP who looked sooooo pretty as snow white way back in the 80's/ early 90's!!!

Oh i think you all had staged ' The Importance of being Ernest' some time in '98/99. Yeah i think that was the play where the peformance of Mr. Gurung was commendable! One thing i miss too is the LC fete.... it was something else !!!

"I still remember some 'topden/tobgay' (??)guy fron NP who looked sooooo pretty as snow white way back in the 80's/ early 90's!!!" hahahaha...Now that is a bitter-sweet all boys boarding school memory that I'd like to erase outta my mind completely. Though the way these guys portrayed the females was magnificent, they ended up being the butt of all jokes after the play was over. hahahah I always wondered how/why anyone would ever wanna act as a member of the opposite sex and be a laughing stock for years to come...In no time, these fellas became the teacher's pet which in a way was protection from the bullies/better grades and a shot at prefectorialship. Damn lady-boys got the whole brown-nosing thing to a T. hahahah

Awww.. my heart goes out to those poor fellas ! I bet they coudln't say No to their teachers when they were selected. I hadn't realised how they would have been affected by taking up such roles..really boys can be mean too and they must have been quick to label them as sissy's ! On the other hand when girls acted as guys , there was no such bullying or anything of that sort. Yours truly always ended up dancing or acting as a male in school and in college ! Oooh i wouldn't want to see Gurung prancing around like he's got firecrackers down his pants . Kollywood wouldnt do justice to such talent but he's definitely wortha catch!!!

Thanks to facebook, hi5 and its likes, keeping in touch is so much easier these days. Keep bumping into old pals from the old school…hahaha And about Stolke, The last I heard, he was in Oz as the whole family moved there. Don't know if he's single but could find out for you. And D, a textile designer? Wonder if she meant a Fashion designer? Methinks she should start modelling her own design line.

Stolke?? hos la? thnx anyways. Since u know so many of the Spadgies... do u recall any teacher by the name of Agnelo? (he was teaching the juniors during '97-2000 )

Angelo? No…Never knew the Spadgie faculty (except for the ex-lahuray gym teacher who made sure the spadgies killed us in every sporting event)...BTW, Was the fellow in your question a Brother Angelo (the spadgie way of calling their male teachers)? Methinks that the Darj term of referring to any males out there as "bros" began with the spadgies. Hahahah Apologies for the abundant use of the word spadgie...an infantile humor in it. BTW, any spadgies out there to explain the history behind NPointers being called spadgies??

Ello Samsara ... and phoenix...well samsara the term "spadgie" is actually not a derogatory or an offensive name given to North Pointers, we actually use it even among ourselves when we meet during reunions...This name has a long history behind it...way back in the 20s and the 30s...our Upper Divison field (the main field where the Independence Day Celebration takes place)....had wooden fences on the hilly side where the spectators sit...and during any local or inter school competitions...the boys used to sit on these fences..and from below we would look like a line of sparrows...Hence the name spagies.... I came to know about this from Fr. Forestell..who had spent many decades at NP.. unfortunately he died a few years back...He used to tell us many stories..and many about our beloved King Birendra and the more hated Gyanendra and the more unknown Dhirendra..and also about the King of Bhutan...he used to tell us how these two royalties would compete with each other..They even competed on who had more foreign chocolates....He described Gyanendra as being more notorious..on one occasion he was caught drinking rum during a private party among the Jesuits fathers....

Thanks Sursum for the brief info on the spadgie history...BTW, who first noticed that you guys looked like sparrows? Surely, must've been some Paulite. Hahahah Never knew the meaning of spadgie but always thought it was something derogatory until today. Now, I've been enlightened. Yeah, there had been a thread some month earlier with a pic of Gyane with some buddies at NP. And reading your post, it all makes sense now as to where Paras' anitics come from. Haahaha Back in our days, we were told by a teacher that both the Royals of Nepal and Bhutan first approached St. Paul's but withdrew their application once they learned that they'd have no privileges and they'd just be another conformed school-kid: Even until the mid 90s, Paulites had to wear the same brand shoes, clothes tailored at the same outfitter in town, hands behind the back whenever seniors approached and the whole what have yous. And for these Royals to be in the same strata as other Nep and Bhutanese kids and respect seniors instead of them doing it?? Atrocious. More importantly, they'd have to attend Chapel everyday. Hell, these kids were gods back home, how on earth could they pray to Another God (God's son...LOL)? Too much for them to handle so they chose the other fine school, NP. That was the word that was in SP those days. I guess we'll never know what the truth is. Also, is the momo restaurant by your main gate still open (the one in the back alley)? I remember during an interschool athletics meet where I and a few of the locals went to the joint and got drunk (knocked out) before heading back to school. Hahahahaa Good ol memories.

I think that restaurant is still there, it used to be called Burmish....the daughter of the restaurant owner was a bomb and she even dated a few guys from NP...hahahaha... As far as the Royals are concerned, they were not treated any differently from the rest of the students...My uncle who was King Birendra's classmate enlightened me about this fact but yes the fathers used to face a lot of problems for their security...which is obvious...Another interesting fact is that..the school gates were actually built by Nepal and Bhutan...the gate towards Burmish was built by Bhutan n the other one by Nepal...Two army personnel from Nepal and Bhutan used to be stationed inside the pillars of the gates...Another interesting fact is that whole land on which the school was built was bought for just a single rupee by Fr. Depelchin...however there was a condition that a road would be built in between the land and hence you have the road going to MH
