अरु कुरा त ठीकै छ, तर the notion that Nepal was a peaceful paradise in the past and now there is a trouble in the paradise is a naïve notion at best.
For example, the problem in Terai is actually due to the peaceful paradise of the past that ignored their equal share in power and denied dignity to Madhesis.
And this one too is very important. The freaking ignorant and arrogant Pahadi youth who always looked down upon Madhesis and hurt and played with the dignity in Pahadi cities and towns (not in villages; villagers were always respectful to Madhesi teachers, health workers, veterinarians or anybody reached to them) are also responsible for the trouble.
Same with the Maoist war.The innocence and denial of the lost paradise is at it’s source.
So, I would say, don’t blame the present and the leaders alone. The past and our ignorant youth are equally responsible. We must be mindful of that too.

Nepe bro, I agree with you in some points, yes the present Madhesi unrest is outcome of long and silent discrimination, its true that when people are silent and not justified they can explore anytime and, mind you, that could be very dangerous. If not today it would have happened tomorrow, so lets hope, we will find some means to solve it. Earlier the better. However, I personally think it may take long to change radically. Exactly, we cant blame only political leaders for present political chaos, our past and youth are equally responsible too. Still, in my opinion those leaders (of course including King) are primarily responsible for dragging the country in this situation. One point, to run country one needs visions. Most of the leaders (almost all) are VISIONLESS in Nepal. I wonder what and how they face foreign delegates. There are boundless opportunities in Nepal. Once Pritihvi Narayan Shah quoted ''Nepal Dui Dhunga bich ko tarul'' now it could be blessing in disguise.if we could utiliese in right way, we could benefit more than what we need. we r between two NEW TIGERS of the world, here lets not only complain about BIG BAD BROTHERS. I think Ive overwritten here, let me take a break. Will surely comeback for discussion. I am also that kind of guy who always worries about country but not contributed much.

Nepe,
your reasoning for peaceful period is irrevalent whether it was a mere coincidence, cleverness, oppression or only few genuine terai people had citizenship. If cuba gets credit for their wow health care system let the due be paid. Otherwise every present is result of past isn't it ? some go for panchayat era, some 238 years, i'm not satisfied till i go for Ramrajya period. ha ha but seriously. Truth is simple, reasoning is cumbersome thats all I meant to say.
By the way, about present madeshi problem, have you wondered why SPA went for distribution of citizenship in rush ( and requiring only three people to swear it) right after Janandolan 2 ? Was it the part of 12 point delhi agreement ? It's easy to cry discrimination ( I agree to some point) but much of the problem lies selling the soul by politicians to gain more votes after 2046 in the name of citizenship.

:: अनौपचारिक

Mr. Truth,
Reasoning is cumbersome. Agreed. However, that’s the only thing we have in order to get to the heart of the matter.
That said, I agree that we should be reasonable enough to see how we all, both the rulers and the subjects, have been victims of history (you used the word “co-incidenceâ€).
When we judge history, we should judge based on the value prevailing at the time, not based on the value evolved at present time (not “ex post factoâ€).
For this reason, there is no point convicting the rulers of pre-democracy era (say Jung Bahadur or Prithvi Narayan). I was not talking about them when I talked about the paradise. I was taking about the post-democracy era (post B.S. 2007 in general, post B.S. 2047 specifically) where liberty and equity were supposed to be the prevailing values.
This should be open for judgment.
You brought up an interesting issue of citizenship distribution. There is no doubt that Nepal now has the most liberal citizenship policy perhaps in the entire world. Anybody residing in Nepal in 1990 or before can get Nepali citizenship. No kidding.
It’s true that this rather extremely liberal policy was brought by SPA leaders in a hurry or rather in panic due to Madhesi agitation in Terai. But I am proud rather than scared of it.
And if anybody is in impression that only the people living in Terai (very recent migrants from India included) benefited from this policy, here is the data to show it otherwise. Out of two lakhs citizenship distributed since the policy came out, only 46% were distributed in Terai and the rest were distributed in Pahad.
Total citizenship distributed: 2,250,869
Citizenship distributed in Terai: 1,055,869 (46%)
Citizenship distributed in Pahad: 1,19,5000 (54%)
In fact some Madhesi take this as a deception to them. Here is one such theory.
http://www.nepalnews.com/archive/2008/others/guestcolumn/jan/guest_columns_08.php
To make things short, there indeed are a lot of unreasonable skepticism, cynicism and even “foreign activism†in Terai. However, we must not deny that it’s making of the continued exclusion of Madhesis in the state in the post-democracy era as unexpected.
Jana Andola II and the reforms thereafter including Madhesi movement and reforms quickened thereafter have changed all that. However, our leaders have not been able to present those cases as strongly as they deserve to Madhesi people. Here I blame them.

Nepe States,"the notion that Nepal was a peaceful paradise in the past and now there is a trouble in the paradise is a naïve notion at best."
Well now Mr Expert compare to what we have now it sure was peaceful--> FACT not a notion. he he
For example, the problem in Terai is actually due to the peaceful paradise of the past that ignored their equal share in power and denied dignity to Madhesis.
Well Senor expert they were not the only ones that were ignored. There are Newars(aka Jyapus), Sherpas(Bhoteys)[the whole chatish barna] ... etc. etc. too whose dignities were also ignored. So what you plan to do give them a sovreign nation or state too? If you keep doing that then Nepal as a nation will cease to exist. Its obvios MR FUTURE POLITICIAN IS INTERESTED IN ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY(mentioned at the end of his sentence) WHICH GIVES US A LIL REFLECTION OF NEPE'S PANDORA BOX. Good luck in your future Kursii....he he !!
Nepe,"And this one too is very important. The freaking ignorant and arrogant Pahadi youth who always looked down upon Madhesis and hurt and played with the dignity in Pahadi cities and towns (not in villages; villagers were always respectful to Madhesi teachers, health workers, veterinarians or anybody reached to them) are also responsible for the trouble."
Again the root of the cause is a lot deeper than that Mr Wanna Be Politician Nepe(You are right we are at fault). Did you ever question yourself why we behave that way ? Why are Nepali folks hostile to people of Indian decent ? Think !!! There you got your answer.
Same with the Maoist war.The innocence and denial of the lost paradise is at it’s source.
The Innocence and denial of the lost paradise is the root of this problem ? ha ha ha YOU ARE TALKING LIKE BIN LADDEN HA HA HA Yeah and there will 40 virgins for every Madhesi awaiting at the gates of this Paradise too ? ha ha ha ENOUGH WITH THIS ASSTALK !!!
So, I would say, don’t blame the present and the leaders alone. The past and our ignorant youth are equally responsible. We must be mindful of that too.
FACT--> ARE THE GENERAL LIVES OF NEPALI PEOPLE BETTER TODAY THAN 10-15 YRS AGO ? NOPE.
SO EVERYONE WITHIN THAT TIME FRAME WHICH IS THE ALL POLITICAL PARTIES AND THE LAZY ASS KING IS RESPONSIBLE( including YOU and YOUR LAME ASS REPUBLIC MOVEMENT which left the Nepali people dry after leading them on with false promises).
DO NOT SOME HERE PREACHING WHEN PEOPLE IN NEPAL DO NOT HAVE THE BASIC NECESSITIES TO SUSTAIN BASIC LIFE.
Haal auta mula ko 25 rupya rey, 1kg rice is 90 rupya rey. AND NEPE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THE LOST PARADISE. BADAA AYOO JANNEY !!!! You really think we are that STUPID NEPE ?

Bathroom,
Debate aside, I must say I noticed a softening in your attitude and a little bit of style too compared to how you used to present yourself in the past. I do not see your favorite adjectives (moron, gadha, son-of-a-bitch) and your omnipotent argument (Hahahaha) anymore or much. I hope these are your genuine growing up and they have nothing to do with the fact that you might know that now some of us know your real identity, Mr. S. R from Boston (just to prove that I know who you are and I am not going to reveal it unless you revert back to your old nasty self).
Now as for your arguments, it must be acknowledged that this Terai unrest and a few other scattered secessionist extremism have taken everybody (ok only the republicans) by surprise.
I must also admit that I am still trying to fully understand what’s going on. A straightforward logic should tell that the change as big as one Jan Andolan II brought (opening up the state for almost open-ended restructuring ) must make all the excluded/marginalized groups happy, optimistic and participating in the process. That’s only partially happening or not happening at all.
It almost feels like the republicans have lost the argument to the monarchist/royalists who were saying the King is the uniting force. But I am sure that is not the case. King does not look like a uniting force at all, if you were suggesting that too.
I am sure the current chaos is partly normal transitional chaos and partly the failure of SPAM leaders in managing it with the vigilance, sensitivity (less self-indulgence) and efficiency it required.
I know SPAM is not going to change much. However, whatsoever they are forced to do would be enough to bring things in track.
For few years, when major debate is going on about the restructuring of the state, chaos is to be expected. There is no smooth way, there is no going back, there is no alternative.
Nepe

Yeah I cuss and swear(who doesn't?) but thats besides the point. Difference between you and me is that I say what I want to say(Cause I have nothing to lose). Whether you or anybody else likes me or not I really don't care....he he Whereas you cannot because you are trying to gain support using this SAJHA vehicle for your budding future political career therefore to be electible you have to kiss ass and make nice to members of sajha. I agree that the seeds of today's discontent were sowed a long time ago during the Panchayat and even before that. But I also feel the mainstream political parties have done poorly when it comes to addressing the problems supposedly created by the Panchayat. The Panchayat was in denial of Nepal's diversity and therefore could flat out deny such issues even existed back then. The NC, UML and Maoists on the other hand have accepted and embraced that diversity (which is good) but because of their mismanagement, mis -governance and failure to understand the shifting fault lines of politics, they have proved themselves incapable of running such a diverse country. The current crop of leaders - GPK,MKN, PKD and GBBS included - have all proved ineffective when it comes to governance. I wont be surprised if there is a military coup one of these days. Sadly new leadership wont come out of the parties or the palace anytime soon which leaves either the Army or "foreign powers" to step in and fill the leadership vacuum. I think such a coup will be bad for the country in the long run but with each passing day the chances of it happening are growing. Just my thoughts.

I haven't figured out is why sajha policy does not apply to few people here. Sajha touts fairness and respect for individuals yet the admin does not do anything about few people who tries to force their ideas on others by using foul and offensive language. These few posters write offensively calling names like moron, fugger, which is a clearly not a respectful discussion. I enjoy discussions in sajha whether I agree or disagree with others but when such people are being offensive it destroys the good image that sajha has as a fair and free discussion site.

Captain Haddock,
Manuj Chaudhary (a pseudo name of some journalist) had an article in some publication of Kantipur some time ago in which he was sharing views very similar to yours (No, I am not suspecting you ;-) )
I had a small discussion with a friend on that and I had shared my quite opposite view that there is no room for any kind of dictatorship in Nepal for next several years.
Here are excerpts from that conversation.
“Manuj Chaudhary has an interesting reading and speculation. However, I think there is a zero chance for any dictatorship to emerge immediately or in a foreseeable future. The simple reason is that, there is no power/force/group/party in Nepal that has not been tested and not failed to disappoint people already. So a forceful grabbing of power by any existing power in Nepal is impossible (to happen and sustain).
If a new power unknown before appeared in Nepal somehow, could impress the people with it's vision and/or some introductory activities and dared to grab the power somehow, then there would be a chance, although still a slim one due to various other factors, for a dictatorship or whatever it would like to, emerge in Nepal.
Meaning, the dictatorship first then good works (dictatorship --> good works) path is impossible in Nepal.
Good works first, then dictatorship (good works --> dictatorship) is possible.
Not only possible, it is inevitable. Anybody who can demonstrate some good work will not just be supported but will be worshipped. A sure way to lead to one or the other kind of authoritarian rule, if not dictatorship.
Putting all together, the only possible route to a dictatorship in Nepal is to get to power first through a legitimate means (election or common agreement) and do some good works to impress the people.
In another words, that is not going to happen for next few years or until perhaps second election.â€

>Ohhhh IT IS A TREAT. IS THAT HOW MR I HAVE
>HIGH IDEALS... RUNS HIS OPERATIONS ? WITH
>THREATS ? ha ha ha
Bathroom,
So you want me not to reveal your identity out of high ideals ? Alright.
But if it helped to make you a bit more civil to all Sajha posters, I wouldn’t mind to throw away this particular high ideal.
