It does make a difference if you win the money in the gas station where u work... you might not be eligible for the win... read the lottery payout guidelines.... and its really wise not to brag about it even after u receive the money..coz u have to be a legal resident or a us citizen to get the payout... coz u have to pay tax on it and the lottery commision has to notify the IRS...

Get a US citizen to cash it. My friend's father at Dallas with Diversity Visa also had similar situation...they fought a lot, but all in vain. Other suggestions above are also noteworthy. Good luck!!!

congratulations!
I heard from an indian guy, who lived next to my apartment, who used to work in a convenience store that you are not supposed to buy the lotto if you work there and issue and sell lottos (he used to print out lotto for him, and give it to me to sign on it so that he can collect the prize if he wins). I thiink your friend is not eligible. Therefore, you should tell that he did not work there (officers will have no proof of that he used to work there because he must be receiving cash directly from the owner working illegally, there would be no records in the tax office regarding his work), but tell that he very frequently used to go there to buy grocerries or cigarettes or whatever.
Lotto office may check the eligibility and background informaiton, so before heading to cash in, be prepared for everything, talk to his boss regarding what to say. If it was not signed yet, sign on it yourself, not by your friend.
good luck!

i think it is not nessary to be US citizen, on the back of the lottery it says you should be 18 years of old and legal resident of US.

You need to be at least 18 years and a legal US resident (You are certainly eligible provided your status is clean!!). Don't expect the full amount you won. For your case, you would have pay around 28-33% tax (It varies state to state). BTW, the first rule after wining a lottery is not to tell everyone you did!!! Rather than posting a thread in Sajha, Google around about what you have to do after wining a lottery to be on a safe side. You must have heard news about people killing their friends for a mere 6000 Rs. worth of cell phone and out here in America, we certainly don't have a scarcity of those type of mofos!!! Enjoy till it lasts brother!!

Get the lottery lawyer before your friend claim for the prize. A million dollar is a big prize, you cannot lie where you bought the lottery to those people otherwise you might loose the money. The first rules after winning lottery is not to tell anybody and get the lawyer.

Tell him to beware of long lost relatives, new found friends, smooching old friends and skanky gold-diggers. Best if he invests it wisely for the future.
