Chinese Food

December 9, 2011 By : valley-foodie

Chinese is overclaimed and underdone in Nepal. Of course these days there are a lot more restaurants in town, a lot more Italian. But remember when every eatery claimed "Chinese Indian Continental" all over town? Good thing those days are over.

There's a delightful little Chinese  place under Tamas, behind Organic Cafe in town (with parking right next door, I should add). I say little like that place isn't fancy, but it's more fancy than not. Perhaps the interior designer went overboard with the rex but they got the Chinese theme pat down so i guess s/he did their job.

The place has also got a good variety of seating - outdoors, floor and round table. I find this to be one of few places where the indoor seating seems more inviting than the outdoor to me (maybe it's all the red).

Service here has always been good. Of course I've never seen the place crowded but the waiters are friendly, take your orders and aren't like that pissy guy at New Orleans in Jhamel who is visibly annoyed if you decide to linger.

They serve up one of the most authentic Chinese cuisine anywhere in town. The fish is to die for. Steamed and sitting on a tiny bed of salad, drenched in what I think is Sesame Oil, you won't regret this order. The only complimentary dish to order would be a bowl of steamed rice. The dumplings are just momos though, not even disguised. Though the sauces that accompany - soy, spicy or in between, add that zing and give it a special flavor. Meat dishes - especially pork is a good idea if you don't mind a food induced coma after lunch. Just go to Singma for Wanton Soup because the one here leaves a lot to be desired.

All in all, a good place to go out with girlfriends or to have a quiet night with your significant other.

Since Valley Foodie can’t cook and hates to clean up after creating havoc in the kitchen while frying  eggs in place of a “real meal” the only option she has is to explore and to eat. You may think such an individual could not provide solid food reviews, but really, it’s the opposite (because she watches Master Chef). Anyway, who says the way to a man’s stomach alone is through food?

Had decent Chinese food, in context of what is available, at Rice & Bowl in Tripureshwor.    The restaurant is kinda hard to find though, way up in the third floor, and at that time they did not have any signs below at the street level.

The restaurant at Himalaya Hotel also serves excellent Chinese food.
