I am on F1 (OPT) now. my OPT will expire in June 1st. I am planning to go to Nepal in Summer. I need to get visa renewed through US embassy in Nepal. I am confused weather I should change my status to H4 or stay in F1. I heard that It is easier to get visa in H4 than F1. Also, I heard that I can attend full time college while in H4 with in-state tution fees . is that true ? I only have two months left to deceide if stay in F1 or go on H4. Hard decision to make. Any sugessions. ?

It depends. Does you spouse has a good job and is secured until he/she gets the GC? If yes, I'd suggest you to go for H4. In H4 status- you will enjoy instate tution fees in most of the states and you can take semester breaks. But keep in mind you cannot work at all. However you can utilize the time until you get your GC by studying or doing something like that or even by making babies if you are a female. In the case you are worried about your spouse's job security, go for F1. In worst case scenario your spouse has an option of converting to F2 which can be a life saver if you guys want to continue stay in US. Hope this helps. Dex

Happy 2009, There is nothing better than F-1 Visa Status. It would be fool on my part, to even write some of those, as you have been in F1 urself. The only concern I see is Visa renewal. And If you are a good student and always abide by rules and regulations while you were here, then I see no problem. But u didn't mention what is the level of ur education? OPT kun level ma leko? Ass/Bach/Master. This will make difference too. If you don't want to take any chances and just wants to return to USA, go for H4, and enjoye all benefits thats comes with it while your spouse have H1. There are so many other aspects to this, and I guess ur situation is hard to analyzie just with few informations here.

thanks guys for reply. here is my situatation, I came to US in F2. I changed to F1 and have been maintaining my status since then with good GPA. now I am a nurse working on OPT. I really want to goto nepal in summer. I really want to stay in F1 but I do not want to take a chance for visa. I do not know how hard it would be to get F1. I am really nervous. I can't decide what to do.
