(This letter was written by Ram Chandra and my intention here is that I as well as some of the well-wishers can help the family to gain their happiness) Sharp LETTER OF APPEAL This is Ram Chandra Kafle, Ph.D. student at Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, writing this letter on behalf of my brother Mr. Dilli Ram Kafle who had been hospitalized in MEDICARE HOSPITAL since 10/25/2008 due to acute liver failure. After spending about 12 Lakhs in Medicare, the doctors involved in his treatment referred him to APOLLO HOSPITAL, New Delhi. The estimated cost for the treatment in APOLLO HOSPITAL would be Rs. 32 lakhs( 20 lakhs IC). For a middle class family as of Dilli, who is basically from Kakarvitta -10, Mechinagar, Jhapa and currently a lower secondary teacher at Ratna Rajya School, Ramkot, Kathmandu, it is almost impossible to manage that huge sum of money. In this context I would kindly like to appeal to all fellow Nepalese residing here in US, to help in his treatment. Your small contribution could be a large support and aspiration for our family. I would humbly appreciate your every single effort in saving my brothers life and bringing joy and happiness in his family. I hope your any contribution would make this treatment success .I would like to thank you all for your kindest cooperation and generosity. Sincerely, Ram C Kafle. I think you can save your PHD's TA stipend and help your brother. At least you must be saving $1000 a month after your essential only expenditure here in USA. Most of the nepalese here are not saving that much after paying their student fees and rent and all. Everybody has problem to take care of back home. IT is just my advise.

Yes, saving montly income ($1000/month as mno suggested) is one options for Ram Chandra Kafle, and I guess he can do that to treat his brother if the health problem his brother is going through is not the acute one and hence can be treated successfully after 4-5 years. But it is different, his brother's situation is very critical now and it seems that he is already hospitalized, may be already admitted to the ICU at Appolo Hospital in New Delhi. So, saving monthly income is not the option here and perhaps he can not get loan to treat his brother either from any where as it seems that he is an international students.

I think we all can save his brother's life if we are bit more generous, we don't have to have a regular income or don't have to cut short our money/saving to support our family back home in order to contribute little, may be $10-15 or more. If we can raise some $12-15000, that is also a substantial or big support to cure his brother I guess.

Hey guys,

Do any of you know how much stipend you get as a PhD student? You get around $1,100 to $1,500 per month depending upon the university. He may be living here with his wife and kids. Who knows?

If he is alone he would be albe to save a maximum of 600 or 700. If he is with his wife and kids, I don't think he can save more than couple hundred dollars per month.

He might be helping his brother anyway he can but I don't think his income is sufficient enough to cover what has been mentioned here as the cost of treatment.

Good bless him and his family!

Thank You mno for the suggestions. Ram Chandra would have save not only $1000 per month but his entire money (may be would worked in gas station leaving Phd behind) for sake of treating his brother, but there is a time constraint. He is admitted in Appolo hospital in Delhi and doctors are demanding immediate money for the treatment. Moreover, as noted by ctal its an acute liver failure (which needs an immediate attention) and as noted by purush, he has a wife and a small daughter whom he had to take care of too. Anyway thans everyone whoever viewed the thread and still expect some donations, if you can.
