This is the nature of politics, not only in this country but around the world. Political parties pursue differing agendas, and at times, those agendas may not align with the interests of immigrants. That reality, however, does not justify placing blame on American Nepalese, who are part of the broader fabric of this nation. I’ve read the bill, and I see no cause for concern. It’s a long-overdue step toward fixing a broken system.

First and foremost, anything that requires 60 votes in the senate will never pass in this polarized political environment. Secondly, it might not even clear the house as there might be huge drop in international students (brings about 45B annually) and will definitely be opposed by the universities. I think we need to stop blaming Nepalese who supported MAGA movements. People will always look after their interests. Trump presented himself as a successful businessman who will improve the economy overnight. People who can vote are very much interested in the economy rather than the party's support for immigration. Had Biden not bring in the unlimited number of people, some of them might be Chinese spies, we would not really be in this mess. Handful of Nepali origin people supporting MAGA movement is not the cause for negative sentiments towards immigration.

He’s married and has five kids who all live here in Utah.  When he received word that his visa was revoked, the notice read “Individual identified in criminal records check and/or has had their VISA revoked.”  Onda said he has no criminal history, just a few speeding tickets and a citation for a catch and release violation on a fishing trip with family six years ago.

@sajhamitra: I don't see the need for a long debate. The bill clearly lays out the problems we've been facing. I don’t need to repeat them. You may support the current OPT process because it benefits you personally, not because it fulfills the goals the U.S. government set out to achieve. The new bill seeks to correct that imbalance. No need to say more.

International students from nooks and crannies of the world uniquely enrich the academic experience in US universities as they bring fresh and overlooked global issues and perspectives into the learning environment. These younger minds are socially more dynamic and become accultured to the American fabric, ways, and mores by the time they earn their academic degrees. International students contribute significantly to the US GDP in the form of expensive tuitions, housing, health-care, and economic activities while fostering economic dynamism when they pick up part-time jobs with extreme agility and flexibility after securing EAD from USCIS. These new graduates should continue to be extended multi-year OPT upon graduation instead of importing H1b visa-holders via profit-offshoring tech-staffing companies who come from just one country that is notoriously afflicting the corporate world and American society with nepotism, tribalism, and casteist practices.

Well said Animo. My opinion on this matter is that H1B visa should be filled with US graduates first before allocating visas for foregin student. That might increase the demand of US student visa and help the US economy. Student visa should be the primary getway for Green Card too. That way there will be plenty of vetting before the person can become permanent resident.
